Here's one I would have to add:

http://therationals.com/

R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
From OTIS REDDING (1965) to THE RATIONALS (1966) to ARETHA FRANKLIN (1967) in that order.

While the Rational version was always my personal favorite, Aretha's version was always R&B tops. Accordingly, it was 'Lady Soul' who sang it all to way from the bottom 26 spot (as debuted) on the WKNR Music Guide listed on May 8, and then the following week, Franklin's RESPECT jumped all the way up to the number 5 spot on the KEENER playlist and stayed there for two more weeks, thereafter dropping down a notch to number 6, on May 29, 1967... that my friend, is another WKNR 'Keener' vibration!

Hey,

Are you guys hip to this site? My First Band (dot com) ...it encompasses bands from all over now, but it was started by two Detroit guys, and the detail on Michigan bands is amazing...it's about everybody's "first band," and it definitely jogged a few brain cells about bands I saw at the Birmingham-Bloomfield Teen Center -- I was underage even for that place, but I got in to see the Fugitives, etc.!

Susanw,

Thanks for sharing that link on the forum. I never came across that one but man, there is alot to find there, as Michigan leads the pack with the most entries. I noticed a couple of bands there I had heard from my younger days, and there's some information included by the very short-lived Motown inclusive as well... The Ones.

Hey, I just happened to come across this new website, and it belongs to none other than Mitch Ryder of The Detroit Wheels. And in the video clip file, check out Mitch Ryder and Otis Redding jammin' to "Knock On Wood" (that must be the Bar-Kays in the background).

It's just too bad that shortie was inserted as a fill-in as they rolled the production credits!
