WOAP back on the air
WOAP AM 1080 Owosso has resumed operations after being off the air for the better part of a year. The daytime-only station has resumed simulcasting the religious/Catholic programming of co-owned WCAR AM 1090 Livonia/Detroit as Michigan Catholic Radio. FCC records indicate the owner of both WCAR and WOAP is Bloomfield Hills based 1090 Investments, LLC.
It's uncertain as to how long the station will remain broadcasting from Owosso as the station has a construction permit to move its operations to the Lansing market. The Lansing/Waverly construction permit specifies daytime-only operations at 50,000 watts and there is also an application on file to add nighttime service which has not yet been ruled on by the FCC.
The near year of silence from WOAP is the second such period in recent history as the station was also off the air for financial reasons for about a year in 1996-97.
